It began in February 2012. Navzad started to get frequent headaches with pain developing all around his body, including vomiting and a loss of control of his eyes. After weeks of testing, the doctors diagnosed Navzad with some sort of cancer yet they were unaware of the exact type. He was immediately rushed into surgery and started 25 rounds of radiation treatment then chemo therapy, which was unheard of for most cancer patients. He lost 30kg in 3 weeks, had lost all his energy and had to be fed through tubes. One month after Navzad’s symptoms, he was finally diagnosed with brain cancer. Navzad was in and out of hospital for the next three years, his parents slept by his hospital bed every night.
Navzad’s battle through cancer lasted three years. Despite his suffering, he stayed positive and transformed into a mature wise soul in his brain cancer treatment. He came out of his shell and still enjoyed the odd practical joke. Through all the needles, prodding, surgery and hardships he never complained. Throughout the treatment he never lost sight of who he was, he would blast his favorite heavy metal music during radiation therapy. Navzad developed a strong friendship with the nurses, he played jokes on them and had many laughs. Navzad showed great strength through his treatment. During the middle of Chemo, he went to his year 12 formal, he wanted to participate and grasp a sense of normality for an 18-year-old.
Navzad’s caring and thoughtful nature lasted with him till the end. In the Children’s hospital ward he would take care of the younger cancer patients, keeping them positive. After three years of strength and positivity, the cancer was too strong and Navzad was too weak. Navzad realized it was his time to say goodbye.
On the 24th November 2014, Navzad passed away.
